The Earth Month 2011 Fun Run: A Very Successful First

The Earth Month 2011 Fun Run held last Saturday, April 30, 2001, turned out to be a huge success for us that we all desire to have another round of the activity sometime soon.

EXCITED RUNNERS. It was such delight to see a crowd this energetic.

Runners from all walks of life -- students, government workers, kids, out-of-school youth, parents, among others -- joined the race for the benefit of the Alabel Bottle School Project.

ENGINEERS. Engrs. Montefalcon and Rivera did not miss the fun.

TEAM DAVAO RUNNERS. They saw our advertisement on Facebook and they decided to join.

While we were thrilled about conducting an activity like this for the first time, the participants were doubly excited. It was probably the first time for an activity of this kind to be held in the town and participating in it is being part of history. Many of them arrived at the venue ahead of time.

Rolando N. Nerpiol, Jr. also led the symbolic filling of bottles, which alumni from different batches also demonstrated.

DIRTY HANDS ARE BEAUTIFUL. Alumni from different batches give bottle-filling a try.

Here are our major highlights of the Earth Month 2011 Fun Run:

  1. We have conducted it with very minimal expenses.
  2. Our racer numbers were painted on used tarpaulin cut into small rectangles. Our markers, too, were made from waste tarpaulin.
  3. We were able to involve the community in our Bottle School Project. The Fun Run had been a very good way of making our project known in the community.
  4. Some of our runners came all the way from Davao to support our activity.
  5. We were able to raise some amount as starting fund for our project. A total of 215 people have registered and some institutions and private individuals also gave initial donations.
Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer, Engr. Allan Rivera, proposed that a similar activity should be conducted again soon.
